Throughout history, garlic clove has played a significant medicinal role. It’s renowned for treating different diseases, especially insomnia. In fact, the odor of the previously-mentioned bioactive compound allicin may have a calming effect that helps you get a good night’s sleep.

Allicin is produced when garlic is chopped or crushed, but we recommend turning garlic cloves into powder.

The said odor can also help in clearing blocked nasal passages and thus improve breathing and stop snoring. Indeed, hot foods and spices are said to effectively decrease sinus blockage.

Anybody who suffers from snoring knows how uncomfortable it is to get shortness in breathing. By wrapping a fresh garlic clove in a paper towel and putting it under your pillow you can get a subsequent decrease in snoring.

Even if garlic’s odor works wonders, it may be repelling for some. Another way to proceed is by eating it before bed or using it to prepare baked garlic bread. (Note that the smell may be repelling for people around you, so make sure to always wash your mouth. You can also use Miswak sticks) Not many publications took interest in studying the link between garlic clove and bettering your sleep, but in the case of asthma patients, it brings relief to drink a mixture of milk and boiled cloves before sleeping.

Additionally, garlic contains a number of useful minerals, specifically zinc, calcium, phosphorus, iron, magnesium and potassium. The last two are known to play a key role in supporting deep sleep. This is explained by the fact that magnesium helps in maintaining healthy levels of GABA, which is a neurotransmitter that increases relaxation and thus promotes sleep.
